This scarf was hand-printed and hand-rolled at the Shanghai No. 2 Silk Printing & Dyeing Mill, one of the historic mills that made Shanghai famous for silk. The print is a fan of peacock feathers in loose, painterly brushstrokes of jade, seafoam and cream, each tipped with a tangerine-and-lilac eye. Behind them, tangerine and teal stripes cut diagonally across midnight navy.
We hand-cut and sew each piece, so every scrunchie shows a different part of the print. One might be all soft green feathers, another mostly navy with a streak of orange, another centered on a feather’s eye. No two are alike, and there are only a few.
Pure silk is gentle on hair, with less pulling, creasing and breakage. The colors are rich enough to stand out on dark hair and light hair alike.
